Therapy for Low Self-Esteem in Stirling
Therapy for Low Self-Esteem at The Wee Therapy Rooms
At The Wee Therapy Rooms (TWTR), we provide therapy and counselling for adults experiencing difficulties with low self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth.
Many people struggling with low self-esteem find themselves being highly self-critical, doubting their abilities, comparing themselves to others, or feeling as though they are somehow not “good enough”. Over time, these patterns can affect mood, relationships, work, confidence, and overall wellbeing.
Therapy can provide a supportive space to understand these patterns, develop self-compassion, and build a healthier relationship with yourself.
Sessions are available in person from our therapy rooms in Bannockburn, Stirling, and online throughout the UK and EU.
What is Low Self-Esteem?
Low self-esteem refers to the way we think and feel about ourselves. It often involves holding a negative view of who we are, our abilities, and our worth as a person.
People experiencing low self-esteem may:
• Frequently criticise themselves
• Focus on perceived flaws or mistakes
• Compare themselves to others
• Struggle to accept compliments
• Fear failure or rejection
• Find it difficult to set boundaries
• Feel they are not good enough
These patterns often develop gradually over time and may be influenced by past experiences, relationships, criticism, bullying, difficult life events, or unrealistic expectations of ourselves.
Therapy can help you better understand these experiences and begin to challenge the beliefs that may be keeping you stuck.
How Can Therapy Help?
It can be difficult to step outside of our self-critical thoughts and gain perspective on how we see ourselves.
Therapy can help you explore:
• Self-critical thinking patterns
• Feelings of inadequacy or shame
• Perfectionism and high standards
• People-pleasing behaviours
• Difficult past experiences
• Confidence and assertiveness
• Self-compassion and acceptance
• Relationships and boundaries
The aim is not to become perfect or endlessly positive, but to develop a more balanced, realistic, and compassionate view of yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Low Self-Esteem
Is it normal to struggle with self-esteem?
Yes. Many people experience periods of self-doubt or low confidence at some point in their lives. However, it’s when these feelings become persistent and affect your relationships, wellbeing, and daily life that therapy can help.
Can therapy help me feel more confident?
Therapy can help you better understand the beliefs and experiences that contribute to feelings of self-doubt and low self-worth. As people develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion, confidence often improves naturally over time.
What causes low self-esteem?
There is no single cause of low self-esteem; it can develop through criticism, bullying, difficult relationships, trauma, unrealistic expectations, or repeated experiences of feeling judged or not good enough.
Is low self-esteem linked to anxiety and low mood?
Low self-esteem is often closely connected to difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, perfectionism, self-criticism, and people-pleasing behaviours. These difficulties can sometimes reinforce one another over time.
How long does therapy for low self-esteem take?
This varies from person to person. Some people benefit from shorter-term work focused on specific difficulties, while others prefer longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and experiences.
How much is a therapy session at TWTR?
Sessions cost £50 for 50 minutes.
